My first foray into traveling without all the kids was a baby step as I still had one "kid" with me! My sister and I took our mother and Hannah to the beach to celebrate their milestone birthdays -- 70 and 13 respectively.
We spent the weekend being silly,
relaxing,
playing mini-golf,
walking on the boardwalk,
swimming in the hotel pool,
and eating!
My last trip was without my entire zoo, but once again, with one of my monkies, and a zoo replacement of sorts -- camping with Olivia's Brownie troop!
We spent the weekend being silly,
hiking,
living by the Girl Scout Law,
and eating!
But it was the trip in between the semi-zooless trips that was the most remarkable: Joy and Sue, period. Nobody else. Nada. Not. One. Kid. For five whole days!! We joke that we used to be lesbians before we were parents. Parenting is the great equalizer. Once you are in the parent club your identity slowly becomes wrapped up in your "job", and it is very hard to pee by yourself, let alone vacation by yourself, but we did it!! For five days, we were "Joy and Sue" again, not "Mama and Mommy"!
For our first night we stayed with Lisa & Janna our new, old friends (or our old, new friends?!?) who own the fabulous "Oscar's Viewpoint" along the Cape Cod Bay in Brewster, MA.
They were so hospitable that they even arranged a spectacular sunset just for us!
Before we left, the tide had gone out so far that it looked like we could almost walk across the bay to Provincetown (which is very tip of Cape Cod that you can see behind us in the picture below)!
After making many, many plans to return to Viewpoint, we drove to P-town where we met our friends who, by the way, live 10 minutes from us, but we have to travel 500 miles to spend time with!
We spent our vacation being silly,
being touristy,
relaxing,
eating, of course ... always eating,
and planning our next adventure for the Wildflower Girls!

Who would have thought last summer ... |

... that we would be back again so soon, and ALONE! |

In the morning we enjoyed our coffee while watching the tide move out until we were able to walk out onto the bay's floor and search for treasures.

Carrying a free dresser that we found for Olivia's room back to our car! |
Riding on the sand dunes with Art's Dune Tours |

breakfast at the Inn |
Our Trader Joe's picnic by the sea on our way home! |
