Today my son Ethan and I participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life in honor of my father who is currently fighting his third diagnosis of lymphoma. Relay is an event where teams of people camp out and take turns walking laps around a track continuously for 24 hours
Relay begins with an inspirational survivor lap where everyone can cheer and celebrate. The survivors line up on the track beginning with those who only have a few months of remission and ending with those who have been survivors for 20 or more years.
It lets the people at the beginning of their journey know there is hope.

Ethan and I purchased a luminary that we decorated then placed on the track along with hundreds of other luminaries honoring those that are currently fighting, and remembering those who lost their fight.

Highland's contestant in the "Miss Relay Pageant" collected over $500 in an hour and was crowned the winner! |
At dusk, the luminaries were lit, and there was a ceremony honoring all the people whose lives have been touched by cancer, then everyone completed a lap together.
It was an awe inspiring sight to see the track ringed with the glowing luminaries, and to hear the many testimonies of the survivors and caregivers. Thousands of dollars were raised today which will enable people who are diagnosed with cancer to live longer and longer. Please consider donating to a very worthy cause, your money will save lives.
